Antique High Back
Western Saddle Tree

[Click on above image to enlarge]

Great Western Saddle Tree
This Antique Western Saddle Tree was purchased at a historic Ranch in Southern Colorado. Just imagine the times and places this saddle has seen. This comes from the time when the West was still young, and Real Cowboys rode saddles like this one. This is a Single ring drop style, high back Rawhide covered tree. The saddle must have been a Great one. We do not know the original maker, but we do know it was well built. The tree is still solid, and many saddle makers are buying these to rebuild them into saddles to be used once again.

JAMES MATTAS
ANTIQUE SADDLE
RAWLINS, WYO.

[Click on above image to enlarge]

What can I say about this Saddle. This is one of the Rarest Vintage Wyoming Saddles you will find. The fellow we got it from said it came from out East of Colorado Springs. Where it has been in it's life is unknown to us, but it was obviously well used by the Cowboy Rancher (Labeled H. M. Tyler on the rear of the cantle) who rode it daily. The saddle is now only useable as a Great Western collector, decorator, or possibly a re-builder by a saddle maker. We are selling it just like we found it. The Saddle is a James Mattas Saddle which was made in Rawlins, Wyoming, and is a Rare find. Originally a saddle maker for the famous Knox & Tanner saddle company in Rawlins which was founded in 1900, the Father and Son both named James Mattas established their own saddle shop in Rawlins after the Knox and Tanner Company had changer managers, and lost their corporate charter. This was once a truly Great saddle. Pay special attention to the Extra large Brass drop front rigging rings. RARE!

Seat measures 13", Swell = 15, cantle height = 5, gullet = 6", front to back measurement = 20".  Saddle weighs 32lbs un-packaged .
